Andrew Strauss is a professional cricketer and he plays for the English side. He was born on the 2nd day of March in the year 1977. He is the present captain of the English side and is a very elegant left handed batsman. He is a very talented cricketer and has been part of the English lineup for quite some time now. He originally hails from South Africa but he settled in England and played cricket for the Middlesex County. All selections for the English national side are made from the county sides and whoever player makes a profound impact in the County circuit is called up for the national squad. Strauss made an impressive debut for the county and was called up for the English test side almost immediately.
Strauss made his debut against Sri Lanka at Lords and made a profound impact in the very first test match. He scored a century in the very first innings and almost got a century in the second one. He made it to the elite club of English players who has scored a century in his first innings and that too at lords which is said to be the Mecca of Cricket. The main driving force behind his meteoric success is his classical left handed batting style. He may not be very technically sound but he is very effective. He is very strong on the off side in both the back foot and the front foot. He is mainly a back foot player and left handed batsmen are born elegant.
Strauss cemented his place in the English test quad and later also made it to the one day side. He is the present captain of England and he has been quite successful given the dismal condition of the side in the recent past. He has helped infuse some new energy into the side and has also made the side a closer unit. He has been a very useful find for the English side not only for his leadership quality but also due to his good nature and sound cricketing mind. He has also been a very successful opening batsman for England. The job of an opener is particularly difficult and hence a good opener is needed in every team. Strauss along with Cook has been a very successful opening partnership for England in both tests and one day internationals. He still has a long cricket career ahead of him and we are yet to see the best from this talented lefty.
